Abstract

Sennett claims that today, we live in the new culture of capitalism, in which a flexible structure is present, demanding from workers something beyond their own limits, resources, and moral conceptions. It is an organization with no long-term vision, fixing employees in the dilemmas of the present and in a work activity with empty and uncritical tasks. Waters analyzes that this social framework has entered into the North American scientific production taking the unbridled productivity and making the scientific content uncritical and static. Based on these analyzes of the contemporary context, this research aimed to analyze whether the way of research reproduces the new culture of capitalism. This is an exploratory empirical study, in which six students were interviewed from one of the best-obtained post-graduation programs at the State University of Maringá (UEM) in the last three years. The results show that the ways of researching are consistent with the new culture of capitalism; fostering future challenges for the production of coherent scientific knowledge.
